Tanusree Shankar wows Doha audience

Last Friday opened a new chapter of entertainment in Qatar with danseuse Tanusree Shankar and her ballet troupe setting the stage aflame with their performance.

Tanusree and her troupe have floored audiences worldwide with her rich repertoire of dances. With deft footsteps delicately woven with diverse styles, the dancers synchronized their way into the stage with the number Fragrance.

It was a magical performance, which unveiled the celestial inner beauty and fragrance of white flowers outsmarting the tempting look of the colourful blossoms lacking the soul touching effect.

The participants successfully unfolded the true essence hidden behind this marvelous composition.

Tanusree’s kaleidoscope of dances drew strength from the perfect body language and mannerisms of each dancer.

Dance of a different stroke

..............As the performance rolled on, the audience was treated to a medley of dances from the spiritual to modern fusion.

The dances reflected the variety of Tanusree’s exposure. The special effect lighting, the music, the rich costumes gave the impression of dynamism, energy and youthfulness. The audience was warm in its response to the diversity in the dances from a fisherman’s ritual, to Rajasthani culture to the rather innovative scene of a chess player’s mind.

One common thread in all this was the marked shift away from the traditional moves of classical Indian dance. What struck the audience most was the balance between modern and traditional dance and the wonderful group synchronization even in exhaustive moves.

But culture is ever evolving and the performance was a reflection of the change. Ms. Shankar must be lauded for her efforts to bring together cultures and yet balance the diversity of the different forms.
